Device not charging

If your device isn't charging up, it is usually related to the power source or the cable. Electronic ink devices require a steady, specific amount of power to kickstart a charge, especially if the battery has been completely drained.

Try these steps to get back up and running:

  1. Use the provided Scribbi wall charger: Always plug the device directly into a standard wall outlet using the power adapter and cable that came in the box.
  2. Avoid computer USB ports: Plugging the tablet into a laptop, desktop, or keyboard USB port often doesn't provide enough amperage (power) to efficiently charge the device, or it may charge incredibly slowly.
  3. Check the connection: Ensure the cable is pushed firmly into both the charging brick and the bottom of the device. If you are using a protective case, make sure it isn't blocking the cable from seating completely.
  4. Give it 30 minutes: If the battery was completely dead, the screen might remain blank for a while. Leave it plugged into the wall for at least 30 minutes to allow the battery to build up a baseline charge before trying to power it on.

Still having trouble? If you've tried a different wall outlet and the device still won't charge, please send us a message at help@scribbi.com so we can help look into it!

Occasional Screen Blinking

Don’t worry, your device isn't glitching! What you’re seeing is a normal and necessary process called a full screen refresh.

Unlike normal tablet screens that constantly push light at your eyes, electronic ink screens use tiny, physical microcapsules of pigment to mimic real ink on paper. Over time, as pages turn, tiny amounts of static charge can build up. A quick black-and-white flash clears out that residual static energy and completely resets the tiny ink particles. Think of it like a quick digital "Etch-a-Sketch" shake to make sure the next page looks perfectly crisp and easy on the eyes.

Faint Shadows on the Screen (Ghosting)

If you notice a faint "shadow" or faint text from a previous page lingering in the background, you are experiencing something called ghosting.

Because E-ink screens use physical ink particles to display images, a few particles occasionally get "lazy" and don't completely flip over when you change pages. This is entirely normal and harmless.

How to fix it:

  • Keep turning pages: The shadow will naturally fade away after a few more page turns.
  • Temperature check: E-ink particles move a bit slower in chilly environments. If the device was left in a cold car or near an AC vent, letting it warm up to room temperature will quickly snap things back to normal.
