Hand opening a case to reveal an e-reader displaying an illustration on a white background. Finger pressing the on button at the top left.

Step 1

Powering on your Scribbi

An E-ink screen displays images even when powered off. If you see artwork on the screen, your device is likely asleep or completely powered down.

  1. Locate the Power Button: Find the power button on the top-left corner of the device.
  2. Turn It On: Press and hold the power button until the screen refreshes.
  3. You will briefly see the boot screen, followed by the Scribbi launch screen.

Step 2

Connecting to Wi-Fi

You need an active internet connection to create your parental account and set up the device.

  1. On the welcome screen, tap Get Started.
  2. Tap Open Wi-Fi Settings.
  3. Select your local network from the list of available connections.
  4. Enter your network password and tap Connect.

Troubleshooting Tip: If you enter the incorrect password, the device will say "Saved" but will display a sub-text message reading "Check password and try again." Tap the network again to re-enter the correct credentials.

  5. Once the status changes to "Connected," tap the Back Button (arrow icon) in the top-left corner to return to setup.

Step 3

Creating your Parent Account and PIN

The parent account secures the tablet, ensuring your children can only access approved content and settings.

Step 1: Account Registration

  1. Enter the primary parent email address.
  2. Fill in your First Name and Last Name.
  3. Provide your phone number.
  4. Create a secure password.
  5. Check the box agreeing to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
  6. Tap Create Account.

Minimize the Keyboard: If the on-screen keyboard blocks the "Continue" button, tap the Return/Enter key on the keyboard, then tap the down-arrow button to slide the keyboard away.

Step 2: Establish a Parent PIN

  1. You will be prompted to Set a Parent PIN.
  2. Enter a memorable 4-digit PIN.

Important Note: This PIN is used to authorize new child profiles, access the App Store, and adjust system settings. Keep this PIN private from your children.

Step 4

Creating a Child Profile

Once the parent account is active, you can create customized spaces for each child using the device.

  1. On the "Who is learning?" screen, tap Add Child.
  2. Enter your Parent PIN to authorize the new profile.
  3. Complete the child's details:

    Child's Name
    Date of Birth
    Gender (Optional)
  4. Choose an avatar character from the selection row.
  5. Tap Continue.

Step 5

Setting up a Child PIN

Every child can have their own personal PIN to log into their profile independently, though parents can always override this with the Master Parent PIN.

  1. Tap on the newly created child profile icon.
  2. Enter your Parent PIN to authorize the setup.
  3. Choose a simple 4-digit PIN for your child that they can easily remember.
  4. Tap the checkmark icon to confirm. The tablet will load into the child's unique home screen.

Step 6

Managing Apps on the Child Home Screen

You can tailor the exact suite of apps available on each child's device profile.

Adding Apps

  1. From the child's home screen, tap the Settings icon (or the App Management icon) in the upper corner.
  2. Enter your Parent PIN to access the App Store.
  3. Browse the categories (e.g., Creativity, Games, Math, Reading, Social Studies, Tools).
  4. Tap Free (or the download button) next to an app like Letter Tracing.
  5. Confirm by tapping Add for Free.
  6. Tap Add to Home. The app is now ready for your child to use.

Removing Apps

  1. If you want to temporarily restrict an app (e.g., hiding a notepad or game for a school day), return to the App Store using your Parent PIN.
  2. Find the active app and tap Remove from Home.

Note: This keeps the app in your device library but hides it from that specific child's profile screen. You can add it back at any time.

Step 7

Settings and Switching Profiles

To cycle between multiple children or edit settings:

  1. Tap the Profile Switcher/Exit icon in the upper corner of the child's home screen.
  2. This returns you to the main "Who is learning?" navigation panel, where you can add additional profiles or log into a different child's space.
